A new corticicolous species of the genus Tubulicium (Polyporales) from Southern Spain. Naturalis
Moreno, G.; Esteve-Raventós, F..
A new Tubulicium species from Mediterranean evergreen forests of southern Spain is described, viz. Tubulicium papillatosporum G. Moreno & Esteve-Rav. It is characterized by its papillate basidiospores and habitat on bark of living Quercus canariensis. A bibliographical revision of this genus is presented, and the new combination Tubulicium macrosporum is proposed.

DNA Profiles of Salmonella Spp. Isolated from Chicken Products and From Broiler and Human Feces Rev. Bras. Ciênc. Avic.
Tejada,TS; Silva,CSJ; Lopes,NA; Silva,DT; Agostinetto,A; Silva,EF; Menezes,DB; Timm,CD.
ABSTRACT Salmonella species have been isolated from various kinds of food and are accountable for outbreaks of foodborne diseases in humans. This study aimed at identifying the similarities between the DNA profiles of Salmonella isolated from chicken feces, chicken products, and human feces in southern Brazil. Six hundred samples were collected (200 from chicken products, 200 from broiler chicken feces, and 200 from human feces) and tested for the presence of Salmonella. Isolates proven to be Salmonella compatible by biochemical and serological tests were tested by the Polymerase Chain Reaction. Their DNA profiles were then analyzed by PFGE and rep-PCR. Salmonella was isolated from 16 out of 600 analyzed samples, with Schwarzengrund serotype presenting the...

Identification of volatile compounds from three species of Cyathodium (Marchantiophyta: Cyathodiaceae) and Leiosporoceros dussii (Anthocerotophyta: Leiosporocerotaceae) from Panama, and C. foetidissimum from Costa Rica Boletín de la Sociedad
Salazar Allen,Noris; Santana,Ana Isabel; Gómez,Nélida; Chung C,Clementina; Prashad Gupta,Mahabir.
Cyathodium is a thalloid marchantialean liverwort with five species reported for the Neotropics. Three species that occur in Panama (C. bischlerianum, C. spruceanum, C. cavernarum) and one from Costa Rica (C. foetidissimum) were studied chemically. Female and male plants of the dioecious C. spruceanum were very similar in their chemical composition except for two compounds that were found only in female plants. All samples of C. spruceanum and C. bischlerianum contained, in less than three percent, the sesquiterpenes germacrene D and bicyclogermacrene. The presence of these compounds suggests a close affinity between these two species. Cyathodium bischlerianum contained mainly aromatic monoterpenes with nerolidol as the main compound. Cyathodium cavernarum...

New species of Pambolus Haliday and Phaenocarpa Foerster (Hymenoptera: Braconidae: Pambolinae, Alysiinae) from French Guyana, Suriname and Panama Naturalis
Braet, Y.; Achterberg, C. van.
Ten new species of Braconidae (Hymenoptera) from French Guyana, Suriname and Panama are described and illustrated. Seven species of the genus Pambolus Haliday, 1836, (Pambolinae: P. pappi spec. nov., and P. rufus spec. nov. from French Guyana, P. granulatus spec. nov. from Suriname, P. duplotaeniatus spec. nov., P. hemitaeniatus spec. nov., P. micropennis spec. nov., and P. microstriatus spec. nov. from Panama) and three species of the genus Phaenocarpa Foerster, 1862 (Alysiinae: P. acarinata spec. nov. and P. insolita spec. nov. from French Guyana, and P. areolata spec. nov. from Panama). Keys to the Neotropical species of both genera are given. Some data on the distribution of other Neotropical species of the genera Phaenocarpa, Idiasta Foerster and...

The importance of beta diversity in local gall-inducing arthropod distribution Neotropical Entomology
Medianero,Enrique; Ibáñez,Alicia; Nieves-Aldrey,José L.
Many studies over the past twenty years have documented the richness of arthropod galling species around the world, and some have proposed hypotheses to explain local and global patterns of galling species richness. However, few studies have been directed toward understanding how the gall-inducing species are locally distributed. The aim of this study was to determine the distribution of gall-inducing arthropods species at Coiba National Park, a tropical habitat on the Pacific coast of Panama. Our results suggest that more gall-inducing species had an aggregated distribution, and gall-inducing arthropod diversity shows a strong beta diversity component. Geographic distance was not correlated with similarity in gall-inducing species composition between the...
